Flash-frozen sourdough from the best artisan sourdough producer in town, Bartels. What is sourdough? Sourdough is naturally leavened bread, which means it doesn’t use commercial yeast to rise. Instead, it uses a ‘starter’ – a fermented flour and water mixture that contains wild yeast and good bacteria – to rise. This also produces the tangy flavor and slightly chewy texture you’ll find in sourdough. Wild yeast has more flavor than commercial yeast and is natural in the sense that it doesn’t contain any additives. Their rye sourdough has approximately 15% rye flour, giving it a unique deep malty flavor and slightly denser in texture than traditional Blonde, or wheat sourdough. Goes incredibly well with cured meat and smoked fish. This product is frozen...but defrosts beautifully! Reheating instruction: 1. Preheat the oven to 180°C 2. Lightly wet the crust of the bread with water (we prefer spraying) 3. Bake for 20-30 minutes Note: best when consumed within the same day Nutrition corner: Sourdough is NOT gluten-free bread. While it is true that the fermentation of sourdough reduces the gluten content in sourdough compared to other breads, it's far from gluten-free. This rye variety is made partly with rye flour, which is very low in gluten - and rye also contains a wider range of micronutrients than normal wheat. There is also some evidence that sourdough's natural fermentation increases the bioavailability of nutrients in the flour, but that shouldn't be the reason you eat it 🤓 Ingredients: Wheat flour, wholewheat flour, rye flour, water, salt, starter cultures. *Unlike everything else on our Grocery, this bread contains gluten!*
