A heavy-duty cast iron Dutch oven, perfect for braising a show-stopping meal. This cast iron dutch oven is made by small Thai artisan forgery in Chomburi and will last a life-time. Here at the Paleo Robbie Kitchen, we stray from using non-stick pans and exclusively cook with stainless and oftentimes cast iron cookware. Try cooking a pot roast, chili con carne, or roast a whole chicken in this and taste the difference! Diameter (width) 24 cm Height 18 cm 5 litre volume ==== Before using, make sure to season your Dutch oven. This is to protect the cast-iron material, prevent rust and create a nonstick surface. How to season your cast iron Dutch oven: 1. Thoroughly scrub the Dutch oven with soapy water (about 3 times over until no residue comes off). 2. Thoroughly dry with a towel or by playing in a hot oven/on top of a stove. 3. Apply a thin layer of either lard or tallow to the entire oven and lid until completely coated. 4. Place it into the oven at 250C for an hour (this adheres the oil to the surfaces, creating a protective layer) 5. Once an hour has passed, let the Dutch oven cool before removing it. Rinse and start cooking! PS. Do not wash the pan with soap! Otherwise you'll have to repeat the above steps. ==== "Why don't you use non-stick pans?" Well, it's the same reason as why we advise people not to re-heat their paleo meals in plastic containers, and instead use glass containers, or alternatively a ceramic plate/container. Non-stick material traditionally contains poly and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) used to create non-stick, stain-resistant, and water-repellent surfaces that can be toxic and highly persistent, both in your body and in the environment. When heated, non-stick cookware releases perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), linked to thyroid disease, infertility, and developmental and reproductive problems. This has been known for a long time and manufacturers of non-stick coatings started to phase out PFAS. Now non-stick manufacturers advertise with "PFAS free!". But they simply use a common replacement called GenX which has been found to be just as toxic. Our advice? Stay clear of non-stick pans, and use stainless or cast iron!
