This is Tuttofare’s Roman Blue Tallow Balm, a multipurpose moisturizer and nourishing balm. Gets its blue color from antioxidant rich Roman chamomile. Nature’s original moisturizer - use it to lock in hydration, maintain moisture and soften your skin. Why tallow? Tallow - rendered beef fat - is the original all-purpose balm. Throughout history people have used it for dry, cracked skin and generally as an effective moisturizer, protectant, and carrier for other beneficial herbal preparations. Before the 20th century, most soaps were made with animal tallow. Why does it work? Tallow is rich in the same kind of fats that naturally occur in human skin oils, mimicking the skin’s natural barrier. It contains the skin-friendly, fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K as well as stearic and oleic acid (which help with skin softening and penetration). Translation: Absorbs quickly, and leaves your skin feeling smooth, conditioned, and balanced. In the 20th century, most soaps and cosmetics moved away to the cheaper and more mass-produceable seed oils as a base for their products. Does it smell like beef? No, it doesn’t. It has been rendered slowly at low heat which removes impurities while leaving the beneficial nutrients intact. Each of the tallow products also contains essential oils which give them a nice smell. When to apply? Works best when moisture is sealed into the skin, which usually means using the balm last in your routine when your skin is still slightly damp. Start small and spread evenly. A little goes a long way.
