Throughout history people have used it for dry, cracked skin and generally as an effective moisturizer, protectant, and carrier for other beneficial herbal preparations. Before the 20th century, most soaps were made with animal tallow. Why does it work? Tallow is rich in the same kind of fats that naturally occur in human skin oils, mimicking the skin’s natural barrier. It contains the skin-friendly, fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K as well as stearic and oleic acid (which help with skin softening and penetration).
